Shenseea Links Asake on ‘Playtime’ — Supa Dups-Produced CATALYST Dancehall-Meets-Afrobeats Party Starter Out Now

Some collaborations need a long explanation. This one only needed one Instagram caption: “‘PLAYTIME’ w/ ASAKE. Friday.” That was it. No artwork tease, no producer credits, no long essay — just Kingston’s favourite firecracker telling the internet that Mr. Money himself was coming to the party. And true to her word, Jamaican dancehall star Shenseea and Nigerian Afrobeats heavyweight Asake have delivered “Playtime”, the focus track from Shenseea’s brand-new EP CATALYST.

The record landed on Friday, 6 November 2026 through Since ’93 / Columbia Records, sitting at track 2 on the eight-song project, and it came with a full official video shot in London. Kingston, Lagos and London in one song? Chale, the passport stamps alone are working harder than some of our playlists.

🎉 “Playtime” in 30 Seconds

A sun-soaked dancehall–Afrobeats link-up: Shenseea’s slick patois and attitude on one side, Asake’s choir-backed, street-gospel cadence on the other, riding a bouncy, flirty groove built by Sammy Soso, TSB and Jamaican hitmaker Supa Dups. Three minutes and six seconds of pure “come and whine for me” energy. Out now on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, Deezer and TIDAL.

Who Is Shenseea? Kingston’s Global Shotta Queen

Chinsea Lee — the world knows her as Shenseea — has spent the last decade turning dancehall’s fiercest confidence into a global passport. She first shook the region with the Vybz Kartel-assisted “Loodi”, toured Europe with Sean Paul, signed a major-label deal and announced herself with “Blessed” featuring Tyga. Her debut album Alpha brought Megan Thee Stallion, 21 Savage, Offset and Sean Paul into her yard, and somewhere along the way she also linked Gwen Stefani, The Chainsmokers, Calvin Harris, Wizkid, and even popped up on Ye’s DONDA 2.

Then came Never Gets Late Here in 2024, the album that earned her a GRAMMY nomination for Best Reggae Album. And she has not been resting since — just last month she was on Yung Miami’s ‘Spend Dat’ International Remix alongside Davido and Vybz Kartel. So if you thought the Lagos connection was new, sorry o — Shenseea has been collecting Naija numbers for a while.

And Asake? Mr. Money Is on a Feature Rampage

If there is one Nigerian artist who has made 2026 his personal feature season, it is Asake. In the last two months alone, The Ent News has covered him on Wizkid’s REAL, Vol. 1 (from ‘Jogodo’ to ‘Alaye’), on Blaqbonez’s ‘IKEBE 3000’, on his own global link-up ‘WORSHIP’ with DJ Snake, and only days ago on Skepta’s ‘Aloe Vera’. Grime, Afrobeats, EDM, now dancehall — this man is collecting genres like Accra trotro mates collect coins.

What makes Asake such a strong feature is that he never shrinks himself to fit the room. That signature call-and-response, the fuji-flavoured chants and the choir-style backing vocals follow him everywhere — and on “Playtime” they meet Shenseea’s dancehall bravado head-on instead of hiding behind it.

The Vibe: Dancehall Wine Meets Lagos Bounce

The production trio is the quiet flex here. Supa Dups brings deep Caribbean credentials and understands how a dancehall riddim should move a waistline. Sammy Soso and TSB add the modern, airy Afro-pop polish, so the beat never feels like one culture borrowing from the other — it feels like both of them showed up to the same studio with the same plan: make people dance and blush at the same time. Then Manny Marroquin, the GRAMMY-winning mix engineer, gives the whole thing that big-room shine.

Shenseea plays the confident host — teasing, bossy, playful, exactly what the title promises. Asake slides in like the guest who arrived late but brought the drinks, stacking his chant-style melodies until the song sounds like a full party crowd. The chemistry is easy, not forced. Nobody is trying to out-shout anybody; they are just trading energy.

And the London-shot video matches the mood: two global stars, one city that loves both dancehall and Afrobeats, and the kind of chemistry that makes you want to rewind. At 3:06, “Playtime” is built for replays, TikTok dance clips and those 1 a.m. moments when the DJ finally plays something you can actually whine to.

Why “Playtime” Matters Right Now

The Jamaica–West Africa bridge has never been busier. From Fireboy DML linking Masicka on ‘CLAAT!’ to Stonebwoy’s African dancehall run with Duncan Mighty on ‘Betta Tin’, artists on both sides of the Atlantic keep proving that dancehall and Afrobeats are cousins, not rivals. “Playtime” takes that conversation to major-label level, with one of dancehall’s biggest female voices and one of Afrobeats’ most in-demand men sharing the same riddim.

It also arrives at the perfect time. December is around the corner — Detty December in Accra, owambe season in Lagos, carnival and stage shows in Kingston — and every DJ on the circuit will need a crossover record that keeps both the dancehall crew and the Afrobeats crew on the floor. “Playtime” has that job sorted. If your December playlist doesn’t have it, my friend, you are planning to be bored.

For Shenseea, CATALYST is her first major project since the GRAMMY-nominated Never Gets Late Here, and putting Asake on the focus track is a clear signal: she is pointing her compass at Africa. For Asake, it is one more stamp in a passport that already looks like a world map.
