Some songs are made for the club. Others are made for that dangerous hour when the club has closed, the phone is in your hand and your thumb is hovering over a name you promised your friends you would never text again. FOLA and Davido have chosen violence against our peace of mind with “2am in toronto”, the Davido-assisted love song sitting at track three on FOLA’s brand-new sophomore album 9, released on 9 October 2026. Chale, the title alone is a whole confession.

The Vibe: Soft Life, Late Hours
Three minutes and four seconds of midnight romance, produced by Blaisebeatz and written by FOLA, Davido and Marcel Akunwata. Apple Music’s own album notes describe Davido as “a fitting complement to FOLA’s romantic nirvana” on this one, and that is exactly the energy: FOLA’s smooth, heart-on-sleeve melodies meeting the man who has been soundtracking Afrobeats love stories for fifteen years. The Toronto in the title gives the whole thing a cold-city, warm-heart feeling. Think city lights through a car window, a hoodie you borrowed and never returned, and two voices trying to convince somebody to stay one more night. Whether you are in Lekki, East Legon or actually in Toronto wearing three jackets, the message lands the same way.
FOLA’s Number 9 Moment
FOLA, born Afolarin Odunlami, first caught serious attention with “Ginger Me” featuring Bella Shmurda in 2022, then exploded with “alone” featuring BhadBoi OML in 2024. Its BNXN remix went to No. 1 on Nigeria’s official streaming chart, and later that year Bella Shmurda signed him to Dangbana Republik. Since then the boy has not rested: the what a feeling EP, Zlatan’s “Get Better”, “Lost” with Kizz Daniel, his 2025 debut album Catharsis, and “Paparazzi” with Shoday, which hit No. 1 on the Official Nigeria Top 100 in January 2026.
The album title is pure football. FOLA has played as a striker since childhood in Ibadan, and the number 9 is the man you call when the team needs a goal. The 14-track album backs up the talk with Ayra Starr on “treat u right”, BNXN on “my type”, Darkoo on “hold u down”, and Bella Shmurda with Zlatan on the closer “it’s over”. But the Davido link-up is the headline transfer of the window.
Davido: OBO Still Scoring Assists
There is something poetic about this pairing. Just a few months ago, FOLA appeared alongside Mayorkun on “B4 B4” from Davido’s sixth studio album Oriadé, released on 31 July 2026 to mark fifteen years of his career. Now OBO returns the favour on FOLA’s home ground. With the Oriadé residency booked for the National Theatre in Lagos from 17 to 19 December, Davido is clearly in a generous, collaborative season, and this verse fits his long habit of putting his weight behind the next generation.
Why It Matters Now
The early numbers are not playing. FOLA and Davido grabbed the cover of Spotify’s New Music Friday Naija playlist, and chart trackers showed “2am in toronto” debuting at No. 1 on Spotify Nigeria’s daily chart on release day, while climbing into the top five on Apple Music Nigeria. For a song that was not even released as a pre-album single, that is a striker scoring in the first minute of his debut. If this keeps rolling, December playlists from Lagos to Accra already know their 2am anthem.
