Some songs ask for your hand; this one asks for the lift button. On 7 May 2021, Nathino teamed up with TomTom Againn for “Elevate” — one word, no apology, pure upward energy. Five years later the record is still sitting among the top tracks on his Spotify artist page, which tells you say the people never stepped out of the lift. So we dey press the rewind button and ride am again.

The Man Behind the Board

If the name is new to you: Nathino is the Ghanaian urban-gospel and Afrosounds act who also works as a mixing and mastering engineer, and his YouTube channel describes him as the front-liner for Rap For God Music. On “Elevate” he did not just show up to sing and collect applause. The cover says it plainly at the bottom — Produced by Nathino — and the official YouTube audio credits him as producer too. Artist, beatmaker, engineer: the guy dey run the kitchen, cook the jollof and still wash the pot.

Two Voices, One Direction

TomTom Againn is the guest on the record, and the artwork treats the link-up like a proper partnership: both men in white tees, one with chin in hand and one staring straight down the lens with that “we know the assignment” look, ELEVATE repeated like a wall chant behind them and the RFG Music badge crowning the top. Apple Music files the song under Christian, and it runs about three minutes twenty — long enough to make its point, short enough to replay before your Monday-morning trotro reaches Circle.

Where It Sits in the Catalog

“Elevate” landed in the middle of Nathino’s busiest stretch. Early 2021 had already brought singles like “Favour”, “Books” and “Million Questions”; after “Elevate” came “Tamale” in August, “Fake Love” and “No Pressure” in September, “Washawasay” in November and the five-track Gratitude EP in December. In other words, this is the song where the RFGM man stopped warming up and started climbing — a faith-forward record with a title made for anybody who has been told to wait their turn and decided to take the stairs instead.

Whether you play am for the morning devotion, the gym, or the office lift wey dey stop for every floor, the title already gives you the assignment: go higher.
