Nathino Behind the Desk: The Producer, Mix Engineer and Credits Behind Ghana’s Urban-Gospel Rapper

In Ghana, when a song sounds clean, everybody asks “Who sang am?” Almost nobody asks “Who mixed am?” That second question is where Nathino lives. The Rap For God Music artist does not just show up at the studio, drop a verse and run off to post the cover art. On a lot of his records, he is the man who built the beat, the man who rapped on it, and the man who sat behind the desk afterwards, pulling faders until the blessing sat right. So today we skip the listening order and open the credits file instead. Pour your sobolo. We are reading the small print.

🎚️ Two Jobs, One Man

Nathino describes himself on X in one plain line: a recording and performing artist and also a mixing and mastering engineer from Ghana. His YouTube channel calls him a multi-talented urban gospel artist who is “also a music producer” and the front-liner for Rap For God Music. His Deezer page goes one step further and lists him as an urban gospel rapper, music producer and the C.E.O of Rap For God Music, under a motto that sounds like a coach shouting from the touchline: “Winners Never Quit And Quitters Never Win.”

That is three hats before we even talk about the songwriting. On Deezer, almost every Nathino release lists the same name in the writer and composer boxes: Nathino. If you want the full life story first, our Who Is Nathino? profile has you covered. This one is about the work behind the board.

🎥 Watch: “Winner” (Studio Session Video)

Before the streaming-era singles, there was this: an official studio session for “Winner”, uploaded to his channel in September 2019. No big set, no dancers, just the man, the mic and a computer screen glowing in the corner. Honestly, it is the best poster for this whole article.

“Winner” later arrived as a proper single in 2020. Read the story in our Winner rewind.

🎛️ The Beats He Built

Start with the producer credits, because they are written in black and white:

  • “Elevate” ft TomTom Againn (2021) — the official audio on YouTube lists “Producer: Nathino”. Listen · Our Elevate rewind
  • “No Pressure” with Wuddah (2021) — the cover says it in capital letters: “PROD. BY NATHINO”. Our No Pressure rewind
  • “Fadi Banku” with Majesty and Kwadwo Sheldon — the Black Majesty Entertainment upload credits the beat to Nathino. Listen · Our Fadi Banku rewind
  • “Aseda” (2023 single) and “Helping Hand” (2023) — both covers carry “Produced by Nathino”. Aseda · Helping Hand
  • “Dear Motherland” (2023) — again, “Producer: Nathino” on the official audio. Listen · Our Dear Motherland rewind

And the beat work does not stop at his own songs. In February 2024, The Ent News carried an instrumental of Black Sherif and Mabel’s “Zero” produced by Nathino, plus a version with the hook. That is producer behaviour: hear a hit, rebuild it from the floor up, hand it to the culture.

🎧 The Mixes He Signed

The engineer side is just as well documented. The official “Loyalty Flow” video states that the music was mixed and mastered by Nathino, with the video edited by Jordan Izay. On ReverbNation, his own uploads carry the credit in the song title itself, like “My Life (Mixed by Nathino)”. Some artists put “feat.” in brackets. Nathino puts “mixed by”. Different priorities.

Go back further and the BLACK NETWORK ENTERTAINMENT blog, which logged his early drops, posts the same kind of receipts: “Winner – Nathino (mixed by Nathino)”, “Nathino – Million Questions (Mixed By Nathino)” and a “Say Cheese” cover, “Sing Praise”, marked “Prod by Nathino”. Catch up with Loyalty Flow, My Life and Million Questions on The Ent News.

🤝 When He Shares the Studio

Doing everything yourself is impressive. Knowing when to call another pair of ears is wisdom. Nathino does both.

  • “Books” (2021) — the official audio credits Louudar Baetz as sound engineer, and the pair teased a “Books” remake on Nathino’s channel back in 2018. Listen · Our Books rewind
  • “Washawasay” (2021) — producer: Beatz Vampire. Listen · Our Washawasay rewind
  • “Love” (Castro – Back and Front Amapiano Version, 2022) — another link-up with Beatz Vampire. Read the 2022 post
  • “No Evil” ft Hakpala — produced by Oshew, according to BLACK NETWORK ENTERTAINMENT.

🏗️ RFGM, BLACK NETWORK and the Small-Studio Hustle

Look at the labels on his releases and you see the same story: RFG Music on 2021 singles like “Elevate”, “No Pressure” and “Washawasay” and on the GRATITUDE EP, and BLACK NETWORK MUSIC GROUP on “Helping Hand” and the Bless Me EP. Hashtags on his channel say it in church-boy slang: “We’re Mad For God”, “Heavenly Wealth”, “#RFGM”.

What does all the desk work do to the music? You can hear it in the editing. Nathino records are short and tidy. “Loyalty Flow” is done in 1:43, “Fake Love” in 1:26. No long intros, no ten-minute outros, no begging for your attention. When the same person writes the bars and mixes the vocal, the song comes out with nothing extra on the plate. For a young Ghanaian artist, that is also economics: every beat you build and every mix you finish yourself is money that stays in the ministry.

So next time a Nathino track sounds clean on your speaker, do not go looking for a big-name engineer to thank. Just check the credits. The same name dey there, again and again. If you are new, our Where to Start With Nathino guide gives you the songs in order. This feature gives you the receipts.
