In Lagos studios, the producer is usually the quiet man in the corner, nodding his head while the stars collect the applause. Chech has decided that corner don tire am. The Anambra-born beatmaker, the same hands behind Zlatan’s chaotic street-hop magic and this year’s runaway hit “Guide”, has stepped to the front with a brand-new single, “By Me”, and he did not come alone. He brought Port Harcourt’s finest duo, Ajebo Hustlers, and Enugu’s Black Sheep himself, Tuff King. That is PH, the East and the boardroom of Naija street-pop all inside one song. Chale, this one no be small link-up.

The record landed on Friday, 16 October 2026, with a video on Chech’s own YouTube channel the same day. And the message is refreshingly simple in a season full of breakup songs and “I no send you” energy: if you hold me down, I will hold you down. Loyalty, soft life and a little bit of show-off. Who no like am?

The Vibe: Loyalty With Swagger

“By Me” is a love song, but not the crying-in-the-rain type. It is the kind you play when things are actually going well and you want the whole compound to know. Chech opens the story by admiring his woman’s style and presence, thanking her for standing by him, and promising that the care will flow both ways. No long grammar, no big English, just the steady assurance of a man who knows what he has. Over his own bouncy Afrobeats production, it feels like Sunday afternoon jollof: warm, filling and a little bit spicy.

Then the features come in and the song changes gear. Tuff King, usually the gritty storyteller of Enugu rap, softens up and talks about emotional security, how real love changes a man and makes him want to protect his partner. Hearing the Black Sheep get tender is like seeing your strict secondary-school headmaster dancing at a wedding. Surprising, but you enjoy it. Ajebo Hustlers then do what they do best: witty, confident bars about natural attraction, comfort and the pride that comes with treating your partner right. Piego brings the melody, Knowledge brings the punchlines, and the PH slang does the rest. At just over two and a half minutes, the song finishes before you are ready, which is exactly why the repeat button will be busy.

The Cover: Four Kings, One Rainbow

The artwork is loud in the best way. All four men pose together in sunglasses, caps and chains against a bright yellow background, each one outlined with wavy rainbow lines like a comic-book poster. Down the left side, the names stack up in chunky multicolour letters, and “BY ME” sits at the bottom in blocks of red, blue, yellow and green. It looks like a flyer for the hottest street carnival in town, and honestly, that is the energy the song carries too.

Who Is Chech?

Chech, born Valentine Echezona Anikwueze, is a Nigerian producer, songwriter and artist with roots in Anambra State. He started his journey officially in 2017, taking his stage name from his childhood pet name “Cheche”. His big turning point came when he met Zlatan in 2018 and they recorded “Able God” in his studio. Since then he has become one of the quiet engines behind Zlatan’s sound, with credits on records like “Ten Bottles”. If you caught Zlatan on FOLA’s “it’s over”, you already know how that Ibile energy can lift a song.

In 2026, Chech moved from the background into the spotlight. He teamed up with Boy Muller and Zlatan on “Guide”, a song whose official video has pushed past 1.9 million views on YouTube, then linked Samad and Zlatan again on “Jet”. “By Me” is the next step: his name first, his beat, his guest list.

His guests are no small names either. Ajebo Hustlers are singer Piego (Isaiah Precious) and rapper Knowledge (George Dandeson), two friends who met while working as waiters at a Port Harcourt catering business. Their 2020 single “Barawo” became an anthem of the #EndSARS season and earned a remix with Davido, while “Pronto” with Omah Lay followed in 2021. Their debut album Kpos Lifestyle Vol. 1 picked up Headies attention, and more recently they crossed into Ghana with Gyakie on “365 Days”. Tuff King, born King David Israel, is the Black Sheep from the Abakpa Nike side of Enugu, a rapper and singer whose Igbo-rooted storytelling has pulled tens of millions of plays on Audiomack and earned an Apple Music Rap Life Africa spotlight for his Phyno-assisted “Women of My Time”.

Why “By Me” Matters Now

Nigerian music has always had a producer-turned-star tradition, and the ones who make it are those who know how to curate. Chech is showing that skill. Instead of chasing the obvious Lagos A-list, he built a bridge between Port Harcourt and Enugu, two scenes that have their own slang, their own swagger and their own loyal fans. Ajebo Hustlers bring proven hit-making and that PH charm, Tuff King brings the hungry Eastern rap audience, and Chech holds it all together with a beat that does not try too hard. In a year where “Guide” already made his name ring, “By Me” proves the first hit was not luck. And for those of us in Accra, it is another reminder that some of the sweetest Naija records are coming from outside Lagos. Producer-artists, una don hear? The gate is open.
