Most artists title their debut project something soft like Beginnings or Journey. SSSoundGawd looked at the whole industry and said, call me the worst. Chale, that is either madness or genius, and after a few runs of his six-track debut EP “THE WORST”, released on Friday, 16 October 2026, we are leaning heavily towards genius. The DJ who became a producer, who became a rapper, who became the other half of Mavo’s biggest street anthem, is finally standing in front of the decks with his own name on the cover.

And the streets are answering. Within a day the EP entered Apple Music Nigeria’s Top Albums at No. 9, and on Tuesday morning it was still holding No. 14 in Nigeria and No. 37 in Ghana. One fan summed it up in proper Naija Pidgin: “E no get as I wan get bad day reach, once I jam soundgawd Presido everywhere go dey alright.” If that is what “the worst” sounds like, please, who is the best?

⚡ The Drop in 30 Seconds

THE WORST runs six songs in under 19 minutes on Kilogbede Records, the same camp behind Mavo. It brings two guests: Jeriq on “EGO” and Loony Q on “Presido.” The man wears plenty hats here. SSSoundGawd produced “SoHo,” “4UP” and “SWAGGA” himself, Jeep Jack handled “Presido,” Lanokies and D-MINOR cooked “EGO,” and Lilgeebeatz built “MAMACITA,” with engineers Dibs and Dopemixx tightening the screws on every track. The two summer singles, “SWAGGA” (July) and “MAMACITA” (August), close the tape, so the four new songs get the spotlight first.

Track by Track: The Worst Is Actually Hard

The tape opens with “SoHo,” the longest song on the project, a self-produced warm-up that lets you know the beatmaker is in charge of his own house. Then “4UP” jumps in, also produced by SSSoundGawd, and its official video landed on his YouTube channel on 19 October. Before that, he had bragged on X that he and DK “shot 6 music videos in 11 hours,” and later told a fan that “4up has 4 videos.” Sleep is clearly not on the tracklist.

“Presido” with Loony Q is the one the timeline keeps quoting, the kind of song that turns go-slow traffic into a private party. “EGO” is the big link-up: Igbo rap heavyweight Jeriq drops in (the same Jeriq we name-checked in Zoro Swagbag’s ‘Settings’ story), and SSSoundGawd teased it with the line “She say make I spend ego…” Jeriq himself tweeted, “sssoundgawd too evil with the sssoundsss,” SSSoundGawd answered with “Ogbeeee,” and hours later he warned everybody, “me and Ogbe got another one in the bag.” Then the summer singles “MAMACITA” and “SWAGGA” bring it home, already familiar to the fans, now sitting in their proper house.

The Cover: Red Alert

The artwork is drenched in deep red. SSSoundGawd stands shirtless with his braids tied back, a chain on his neck and a cross tattoo on his torso, looking back over his shoulder like somebody just called him “the worst” and he is deciding whether to reply. “The Worst” is written in thin white cursive at the bottom right, with his name in small letters on the left. Cover artist Silly_Cowboy shared the creative direction credit with interludetheart and SSSoundGawd himself. It is moody, confident and a little bit dangerous, exactly like the music.

Who Is SSSoundGawd?

SSSoundGawd is a Nigerian DJ, producer and rapper who started dropping his own lead singles with “YA STRATA” in June 2025. Fans still say “it all started from ya strata.” His real breakout came alongside Mavo: their February 2026 smash “Aura Salad” has passed five million views on YouTube, and the pair returned with “BB Lifestyle” on Mavo’s Business album, plus “Hey Mama” with Uganda’s Joshua Baraka. Mavo has been everywhere since, including DJ 808’s fresh Amapiano cut ‘Shenk Me’. In the EP’s rollout, SSSoundGawd framed the title as a comeback story: the guy people once called the worst at rapping, the worst at producing, and the worst at stepping out from behind the decks. Producer, DJ, rapper, vocalist. As one supporter put it on release day: “The worst!”

Why THE WORST Matters Now

Nigeria’s street-pop scene has always loved producers, but it rarely lets them become the main character. SSSoundGawd is flipping that script with a short, focused tape where he produced half the songs, brought in his own features and still landed in the Apple Music top ten in Nigeria with a debut. For Ghanaian listeners, it is already moving on our charts too, which means the crossover has started without anybody begging. Reverse psychology has never sounded this good: name yourself the worst, then dare the whole country to prove it.
