Nigerian rap has given us diss tracks, freestyles and enough chest-beating to fill the National Stadium. Now one of its sharpest pens wants to talk about something softer: daddy duty. Vector, the Lagos lyricist they call tha Viper, has teamed up with singer Cynthia Ifie on “Dad & Dot,” a warm, reflective single released on 9 October 2026. The cover says it all before the first bar: a little girl laughing in a ball pit while her father’s hand, gold watch and all, reaches down to her. Chale, even the hardest rapper becomes a teddy bear once his daughter laughs.

The Vibe: Bars With a Soft Landing
Producer Password builds the record on gentle acoustic touches, mellow hip-hop drums, light strings and warm electric piano keys. Nothing is rushed. That patience gives Vector space to do what he does best, stacking multi-syllable rhymes, while keeping the message plain enough for any father to catch. Cynthia Ifie carries the hook with a soulful, gospel-tinged voice that wraps around his verses like a church choir on Father’s Day. It is not a club banger, and it does not try to be one. This one is for the car ride home after school pickup.
Presence, Not Just Presents
Vector is not only rapping the message; he is campaigning with it. Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, he timed the song to the build-up to the International Day of the Girl Child on 11 October and framed it as “presence versus presents,” a phrase he credits to a conversation with Alibaba. He recalled that his own father, who worked at Force Headquarters, was home by 5 or 6pm to spend time with the family, and argued that today’s long working hours and tough economy keep many dads away. He even wants labour rules that give fathers more time at home.
The idea grew out of his birthday on 7 August, when he invited fellow girl-dads to a picnic complete with bouncy castles and cotton candy. It is now becoming a yearly Dad & Dot moment, and Vector is sharing activity boxes with colouring books inspired by his own daughters so fathers and daughters can create something together.
Who Is Vector?
Born Olanrewaju Ogunmefun, Vector has spent more than a decade as one of Nigeria’s most respected rap voices, known for wordplay, battle-ready verses and a well-documented rivalry with M.I Abaga that later cooled into collaboration on “Crown of Clay” with Pheelz. His 2022 album Teslim: The Energy Still Lives in Me dug deep into his late father’s influence, so “Dad & Dot” feels like the next chapter: the son who learned from his father is now the father passing it on. In 2026 alone he has dropped “Omí l’àwòrán” and jumped on records with General Pype and Licious Crackitt.
Why It Matters Now
Afrobeats talks a lot about money, women and Detty December, so a mainstream rapper using his platform for fatherhood is refreshing. With the Day of the Girl Child landing a day after release, the timing is perfect for radio, churches and every family WhatsApp group. Ghana dads, Naija dads, diaspora dads: this one is your homework.
