Some friendships in Naija music are like jollof at a Jos wedding: no matter how many years pass, the moment the pot opens, everybody remembers the taste. Yaadman fka Yung L and Ice Prince have been cooking together since their university days on the Plateau, and on 9 October 2026 they opened the pot again with “Original”. The title alone is a statement. In an industry where everybody is copying everybody’s flow, two veterans from the same Jos street corner have come to remind the younger ones who was here first.

The Vibe: Swagger With a Birth Certificate

“Original” is a confident Afro-dancehall record built around one simple message: be yourself, because everybody else is already taken, and most of them are taken by the same producer. Yaadman rides the riddim with that laid-back, smoky, unbothered delivery that made him the Plateau’s favourite dancehall son, sounding like a man who has nothing to prove and is still proving it anyway. Then Ice Prince steps in with a sharp, self-assured verse that pushes the energy up, the same way he used to lift a room back when “Oleku” was blasting from every danfo in Lagos.

The secret ingredient is behind the boards. Chopstix, the producer who gave Ice Prince “Aboki” and “More”, co-produced the record with Yaadman himself. So this is not just a feature; it is a family meeting. The groove is relaxed enough for a Sunday evening drive and bouncy enough for a Friday night shayo session, and it carries that warm, slightly cheeky dancehall swing the Jos crew has always done better than most.

Grip Boiz Forever: The Back Story

To understand why fans are calling this a reunion, you need small history class. Yaadman, born Christopher Omenye in Jos, met Ice Prince, Endia, J.Milla and Chopstix while studying at the University of Jos. Together they formed the GRIP movement, and in 2011 the Grip crew packed their bags for Lagos. Since then, the two have kept running into each other on wax: Ice Prince’s “Magician” with J.Milla and Yung L in 2011, the 2013 posse cut “Gimme Dat” alongside Burna Boy and Olamide, and the 2024 “Vawulence” remix with Ghana’s own Sarkodie. On X, one fan summed it up neatly: “Grip boiz forever.” Another simply said Yaadman and Ice Prince have been a mad combo “from time immemorial”. Chale, the people have spoken.

Who Are These Two, Again?

Yaadman built his name with “SOS”, “Pass The Aux” and the Wizkid-assisted “Eve Bounce” remix, landed on Major Lazer’s “Run Up” remix in 2017 with Skales and Chopstix, and dropped the Better Late Than Never album during his Chocolate City years before rebranding as Yaadman. In February 2026 he linked Sarkodie again on “Wins & Losses”. Ice Prince, born Panshak Zamani, needs even less introduction: Headies Song of the Year for “Oleku”, a BET Best International Act award in 2013, former vice president of Chocolate City and founder of Super Cool Cats. Between them, these two have more Naija classics than some radio stations have jingles.

Why It Matters Now

The current Afrobeats scene moves at TikTok speed, and many veterans struggle to find space between the new-wave street-pop kids. “Original” shows another way: do not chase the trend, just double down on the sound that made you. It also lands at a good time for Ghanaian listeners, who already know Yaadman through his many Sarkodie link-ups. If you grew up on Jos-to-the-world hip-hop and dancehall, this one will feel like meeting your secondary school crew at a wedding and realising everybody still dances the same way.
