Some songs come out. “Da Da” came out, went back inside, and then came out again with its chest higher. In early October, WurlD let fans hear the record early, the timeline caught the feeling, and then — two days later — the song was pulled down while the team sorted out the release. “The official release date is October 23rd,” he told fans. Plenty of people spent that weekend searching for it like a lost SIM card.

The wait is over. On Friday, 23 October 2026, the Lagos-born, Atlanta-schooled singer-songwriter officially released “Da Da” through Addictive Content, and his own two-word caption said it best: “Worth the wait.”

Who Is WurlD?

WurlD is Sadiq Onifade, a Nigerian singer and songwriter born in Lagos who moved to the United States as a teenager. He studied computer science at Georgia State University in Atlanta, and somewhere between lines of code the music took over. His debut EP, Evolution, arrived in 2013, he wrote in the studio with American R&B star Mario, and in 2015 his Sony Music record “Follow You” with Polish DJ Gromee went Gold. If you know the long road from Atlanta to Lagos, you will enjoy Taylor Jasmine & Carter Efe’s ‘Met You’ — WurlD walked that same bridge years before it became a trend.

Back home, he became one of the quiet architects of the alté-meets-soul lane. He linked Walshy Fire and Shizzi on “Show You Off”, earned a Best Diaspora Act nomination at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards in 2017, and teamed up with Sarz on the much-loved “MAD”. His COLORS performance of “Ghost Town”, the AFROSOUL project with “Bossy” alongside Kida Kudz and Cuppy, and “No Suffer” with ODUMODUBLVCK — yes, the same ODUMODUBLVCK now pouring ‘Salt’ with 6uff — all carry the WurlD fingerprint. He also has a songwriting credit on Davido and Chris Brown’s “Blow My Mind”. The man has written for stars, sung for crowds and still keeps his voice for himself. Respect.

Omo Egba: The Origins Story Behind “Da Da”

Here is where it gets personal. When he first teased the record on 7 October, WurlD explained that his next single was inspired by the idea of origins: “I was born in Lagos but I’m not from Lagos like so many of us.” His family is from Egba Gbagura in Abeokuta, and “Da Da” is his way of making music around where he comes from. He said he was in his “Afro-Soul fusion mood”, and the Egba people answered roll call — his mentions filled up with “Omo Egba” pride, and one fan even pitched a December concert in Abeokuta. WurlD’s reply? He asked who the best promoter in Ogun State is. Abeokuta, prepare the Olumo Rock VIP section.

He was also careful not to lock anybody out: “Your origin doesn’t have to be Egba to enjoy this one. I’m just letting you into my world a little closer.” That is the spirit of the whole record — a hometown love letter with the door left open for Accra, Lagos, Houston and everybody in between. Ogun State is clearly having a moment; only last week Double Gee2x carried Sango Ota energy on ‘Ore Agbako’.

The Vibe: Indigo Cloth, Silver Ripples

Start with the cover, because WurlD did not just pick a nice photo. The official artwork is inspired by Adire, the indigo-dyed fabric Abeokuta is famous for. Instead of a printed pattern, you get a deep blue canvas, a glowing side profile traced in pale light, and concentric circles rippling out like water — or like the tie-and-dye rings an Adire artisan creates by hand. Old tradition, new technology, one frame.

The song moves the same way. It is a mid-tempo Afro-soul glide, built for headphones as much as for the lounge — the kind of record that suits a slow Friday drive down the Spintex Road or a late dinner in Victoria Island when nobody is in a hurry. Notjustok described it as smooth and silky, and that fits: warm percussion, an understated bassline and plenty of space for WurlD’s voice, which has always been his secret weapon. He sounds relaxed, like a man who has nothing to prove and plenty to share. No shouting, no gimmick — just a grown man singing about home.

Why “Da Da” Matters Right Now

WurlD has been one of Nigerian music’s most dependable writers for over a decade, but the past year has been especially busy: the Metal Hearts project, “Contagious (Afrohouse Riddim)” in June and “You and I” in September. “Da Da” feels like the most personal of the lot. In a season where most Afrobeats singles chase the same club formula, a record rooted in one specific hometown — down to the textile on the cover — stands out from the stack.

The timing is sharp too. The release landed on the same Friday as Mavo’s ‘Goyard’, and the very next night WurlD was on stage in Houston, with Chicago the night after. Fresh music, live dates and a hometown story that already had Egba people shouting before the official drop — that is how you turn a delayed release into a proper event. The song went on leave for two weeks and came back with promotion.
