On 12 October, one Kwadwo Sheldon tweet said what half of Ghana was thinking: King Promise had been “unusually quiet this year” and “the game needs him.” Charley, the man had not exactly been sleeping. He dropped a whole joint album with Mr Eazi, wrote Chelsea a club anthem and walked Stamford Bridge like he owns a season ticket and a stand. But a solo single in 2026? Not yet. So the Nungua boy did what every good Ghanaian does when somebody calls him out. He went quiet small, then came back singing.

The answer is “Melody”, released at midnight on Friday, 23 October 2026 through 5 Star Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment West Africa, produced by Gideonite. The audio hit every platform first, and the official video followed at 4pm GMT the same day. By evening King Promise was on X declaring it “made with all the sexiness in the world”, YFM had it in rotation in Accra and Naija FM was spinning it in Lagos. One day, two capitals. Not bad for a man who was supposedly quiet.

⚡ The Drop in 30 Seconds

“Melody” is a brand-new 3:07 Afrobeats love song from King Promise, written by Gregory Bortey Newman himself and produced by Gideonite. It is his first solo single of 2026 and, according to Sony Music Africa, the first official single from a new album planned for 2027. The song is live on Spotify, Apple Music, Audiomack, YouTube, Deezer and TIDAL, with an official music video on his YouTube channel. The theme is simple: a woman so sweet she becomes the tune stuck in his head. The hook practically sings itself: “la la la la la lo.”

The Vibe: La La La, Chale, Who Is She?

King Promise has never needed to shout. His whole career is built on that smooth, unbothered delivery that makes a love song sound like a private conversation you were lucky to overhear. “Melody” stays in that lane and polishes it. Sony’s own release notes call it an “unapologetically romantic ode to a woman’s beauty and sensuality”, and the hook plays on the very idea of a melody: she is the melody, the one that stays in his head long after the music stops. Every Ghanaian guy who has replayed a voice note five times before replying understands this feeling well.

The teasers told you what was coming. On 15 October he posted the title with nothing but a music note and “10/26”. Two days later it was “La La La La La Lo!!”, and on 19 October he wrote “wobɛti la lala lala lo” and warned that things were “about to get steamy.” By the time he said “See you at Midnight” on the eve of release, the chant was already in people’s mouths. That is how you sell a hook: make the people sing it before they hear it.

Gideonite’s production gives the record space to breathe, with warm Afrobeats drums, highlife sweetness around the edges and enough R&B softness for the late-night playlist. King Promise switches between English, Pidgin, Twi and Ga with the ease of a true Nungua boy. One fan on X summed it up neatly after hearing the second verse: “Pidgin-Twi-Ga-English.” Even hitmaking producer Beatz Vampire chipped in with a short verdict: “This is clean.” Review closed.

The Video: Red Jacket, White Walls, Big Sky

King Promise called it “video of the year” before it even dropped, which is a bold thing to say in October. The visual moves between moody black-and-white close-ups, with King Promise in a monogram cap and specs, and bright, clean scenes against sun-washed white walls, where he wears the same red cap, dark shades and red jacket with a white flame design from the cover art. Later he switches to a black leather vest with heavy chains under a deep blue twilight sky. The single cover follows the same palette: King Promise leaning on a white wall on white stone steps, head bowed under the red cap, while a woman sits on the steps beside him. Minimal, warm, expensive. If you were planning to wear red this December, the man has already collected the dress code.

Who Is King Promise?

King Promise, born Gregory Bortey Newman, grew up in Nungua in Accra and has become one of Ghana’s most influential voices in Afrobeats and highlife. His three solo albums, As Promised (2019), 5 Star (2022) and True to Self (2024), built a catalogue of hits including “Tokyo”, “Ring My Line”, “Paris” and “Perfect Combi”. His global breakthrough, “Terminator” featuring Young Jonn, has passed 265 million streams and more than 12 million TikTok creations.

His collaborations stretch from Wizkid, Davido and Young Jonn to RAYE, Headie One and Chance the Rapper. He won a Headies Award in 2019, earned MOBO and Trace nominations in 2025 and another Headies nomination in 2026. Off the mic he convenes the Promiseland Festival and runs Rent Paid, a community movement that supports the Nungua Orphanage in his hometown.

Why “Melody” Matters Now

For most of 2026, King Promise has been a team player. In April he and Mr Eazi released See What We’ve Done, which became Ghana’s number one album, and The Ent News covered tracks like the ‘See What We’ve Done’ title track and the Gideonite co-produced ‘Baby I’m Still Jealous’. Then came football: a lifelong Chelsea fan, he wrote the club’s official anthem, ‘Can’t Tame Us’ and took the club’s London to the World campaign home to Accra with a Rent Paid tournament in Nungua.

“Melody” is the pivot back to King Promise the solo star. It is the first official single from an album planned for 2027, it sets the stage for Promiseland 2026, and it reconnects him with Gideonite, whose work already sits on the joint album. Late-year Ghana is about to fill up with Detty December playlists, and a smooth love song with a chant everyone can sing is exactly the kind of record that owns those nights. The streets asked where King Promise was. He answered with a melody. Fair trade.
