In Lagos street dictionary, to “shenk” somebody is to curve them, dodge them, leave them on read with style. Every guy who has ever approached a fine girl with an empty pocket knows the feeling. One fan summed it up perfectly under the announcement: “If I no get money she go shenk me.” Now DJ 808 and Mavo have turned that heartbreak into a dance move. Their new joint single “Shenk Me” landed at midnight going into Friday, 16 October 2026, and by Tuesday it was already sitting at No. 97 on Apple Music’s Top Songs chart in Nigeria. Chale, the curve has never sounded this sweet.

Mavo announced it in his usual no-long-talk fashion: “shenk me - @DJ808__ ft. myself out now. mp4 available on @youtube. make a mess.” Fans took the last instruction seriously. Within a day, chart trackers reported that the song had debuted at No. 94 on Spotify’s Daily Top Songs chart in Nigeria with about 66,000 streams, and DJ 808 proudly reshared the news. Not bad for a song about getting rejected.

⚡ The Drop in 30 Seconds

Shenk Me is a one-track release of about three minutes and nineteen seconds, issued under LUNO RECORDS, the DJ’s own label. Stores file it as Amapiano, it carries the explicit tag, and both men share top billing, so this is a proper joint effort, not a DJ mix with a voice note pasted on top. The official visualizer went up on DJ 808’s YouTube channel on release day and had crossed 55,000 views by Tuesday morning. The description promises “a high-energy Amapiano banger built for the dance floor, the streets, the parties, and every moment that needs a little extra steeze.” Extra steeze. Write that one down.

Who Is DJ 808?

DJ 808 is a Lagos-based DJ, producer and engineer who runs with Luno Records. He has been stacking dance-floor credits quietly for years: the 808 Rhapsody EP in 2024, “KONSENTRAIIT” with Minz and Toyé, “Cover Me” with Peruzzi on board, and the street-ready “Bombing” with Smada and Zlatan. Blaqbonez also pulled him onto “W For Wetego” alongside Phyno and Young Jonn in 2025. His YouTube channel even carries a behind-the-scenes video of the making of Mavo and SSSoundGawd’s “Aura Salad,” so this link-up did not just fall from the sky. The studio chemistry has been cooking for a while.

Who Is Mavo?

Mavo is Oseremen Marvin Ukanigbe, born on 1 November 2003 in Ekpoma, Edo State, and signed to Kilogbede Records. 2025 was the year the whole country learned his name: “Escaladizzy” with Wave$tar went viral and earned a remix with Zlatan, Shallipopi and Ayra Starr, then “Shakabulizzy” pulled in a Davido remix. He has since worked with Wizkid, CKay, Tiwa Savage and more, and dropped the 13-track project Business in July. He is also known for his own street slang, nicknamed “Bizzylingua,” and calls his sound “Burbur.” Ghana knows him too: he joined KJ Spio and Gyakie on ‘Call Me’, and earlier this month we covered his turn with Tiwa Savage and Wande Coal on ‘Energy’.

The Record: Rejection, But Make It Groove

The beauty of Shenk Me is how it laughs at pain. The log drums roll in confident and unhurried, and Mavo rides the groove with the half-sung, half-gisting delivery that made “Escaladizzy” a TikTok favourite, so every line sounds like a private joke between friends. The team says the record is already making waves on TikTok, and you can hear why: the hook is short enough to lip-sync and petty enough to caption. It is the kind of song where you are dancing before you even understand what he is saying, and by the time you understand, you are already shouting it. It is made for the moment the DJ drops the tempo, the whole room bends knee small, and somebody’s uncle suddenly remembers he used to be a dancer.

The Cover: Grand Hustle Energy

The artwork is a painted, almost comic-book portrait of a stylish duo in big white sunglasses. One wears a purple dollar cap, a striped green jumper and a gold bee chain; the other rocks a cream bandana, a red jacket and a chunky “808” pendant. A giant yellow “SHENK ME” runs down the side, with a “Grand! Hustle” badge in the corner. It looks like a poster from a 90s video shop, and honestly, we would rent it.

Why Shenk Me Matters Now

Amapiano is still the official language of West African parties, and Lagos keeps adding its own street slang to the South African sound. Mavo is on a serious run of features this year, and DJ 808 is proving that the DJ-producer lane can carry a headline single, not just a mixtape. With December loading and Detty season around the corner, a song about getting curved, wrapped in a groove that makes you forget you were curved, is perfectly timed. If she shenks you this Christmas, at least you have the soundtrack.
