Some features are just a name on the poster. Others are the reason you rewind. On “Uwese”, Nigerian Afropop lover boy KOHDEE calls in his Troniq labelmate Oxlade, and the result is one of the warmest two-and-a-half minutes on his brand-new album THE KOHDEX, released on 9 October 2026. The cover sets the mood before the beat even starts: KOHDEE alone on a stool under a deep red spotlight, head tilted up like he is waiting for an answer from above. Chale, when the lights are this moody, you already know the song no come here to shout.

KOHDEE: The Lover Boy Who Refused to Quit
Behind the name is Ogechukwu Otu, a singer, songwriter and producer raised by a gospel-singing mother. His road has not been smooth: a near-fatal car crash, an Information Technology degree in Cyprus, and years of independent grind before the big rooms opened. He came through with The Link EP featuring 1da Banton, the standout “Mexebu” with The Cavemen, then signed to Troniq and dropped “Mr. Fantastic” and the Tekno-assisted “Go Well”. His debut album SWEET KARMA followed in October 2024, and “Zaza” with ODUMODUBLVCK took his name to new ears in 2025. His advice to his younger self in a TurnTable Charts interview says everything about his attitude: “Never water yourself down to make people comfortable.”
The Vibe: Breezy, Smooth and Easy on the Heart
“Uwese” lives in comfortable Afropop territory, with Aymixbeats laying down breezy synths and rhythmic percussion that never rush you. KOHDEE stays in his melodic lover-boy lane, the kind of voice that sounds like a voice note you replay before you reply. Then Oxlade arrives and the temperature changes. New Music Friday reviews at Pulse Nigeria and Afromixx both singled out his verse as the highlight of the record, and honestly, that is no surprise. When Oxlade opens his mouth, even the AC in the trotro starts working. The song is short, sweet and made for repeat, whether you are cruising through Lekki or stuck in Kaneshie traffic with your windows up and your feelings down.
Oxlade: Ghana’s Favourite Naija Guest
Oxlade needs no long story. This is the falsetto behind “Ojuju”, “Katigori” and the global smash “Ku Lo Sa”. Ghana fans know him even closer: he has linked with Sarkodie on “Non Living Thing” and “Ololufe”, KJ Spio on “Emiko” and Kojo Blak on “Sailor”. Having him on a labelmate’s album is the Troniq family keeping things in the house, and it hands KOHDEE’s new project one of its biggest names on the credits.
Why It Matters Now
THE KOHDEX is a tight 12-track, 27-minute project that also carries ODUMODUBLVCK on “Zaza” and Ice Prince on “Peace of mind”, plus singles “Your Aura” and “Believe”. In a week where FOLA, Phyno and plenty of big names all dropped on the same Friday, “Uwese” is the record that has given KOHDEE a seat at the table. KOHDEE also shared it on his official YouTube channel on 11 October. For a man who once said he is “very unpredictable”, this one is a safe bet: smooth, short and sweet like correct chilled sobolo.
