Some promises in Ghana take time. Your landlord promised to fix the ceiling fan in 2021. Your cousin promised to return your Bluetooth speaker “next week” during the last election. And Medikal, according to Kojo Blak himself, promised him a verse back in 2021. The difference? Medikal actually delivered. On X, the Dragon put it plainly: MDK promised him a verse in 2021, and he finally collected it in 2026. That long-awaited verse now lives on “Ability”, and the receipt is a brand-new single with one of the busiest producers in Accra also stepping up to the mic.

“Ability” landed on Friday, 23 October 2026 through Blue Magic/Encore Recordings, with an official visualiser going up on Kojo Blak’s YouTube channel just after midnight Accra time. By breakfast, it was already sitting on Spotify, Apple Music, Audiomack, Deezer and TIDAL. Friday release, Friday energy, Friday payday. The timing alone is a flex.

⚡ The Drop in 30 Seconds

“Ability” is a tight 2:20 Afrobeats single credited to Kojo Blak featuring Medikal and Beatz Vampire. Beatz Vampire is not just the man behind the beat this time; he is also listed as a lead vocalist, which makes this a true three-man link-up instead of the usual “producer tag in the first two seconds” arrangement. Kojo Blak brings the melodies, Medikal brings the AMG swagger, and the whole thing is mixed and mastered by Gigz Beatz. The writing credit is shared three ways, with Kojo Blak and Medikal listed under their real names, McDonald Adotey Braide and Samuel Adu Frimpong. Short song, big names, zero wasted seconds.

🎧 Watch & Listen: “Ability”

The Vibe: Leg Day, But Make It Afrobeats

The title says it all before the first drum lands. “Ability” is a confidence word, the kind of word your gym instructor shouts when you are on your last rep and your legs are begging for mercy. Kojo Blak has built his name on smooth, melodic Afrobeats with highlife DNA, the sound that turned “Excellent” into a wedding, church harvest and Uber playlist regular. Here he keeps that sweetness but sharpens the attitude. This is not a heartbreak ballad. It is a chest-out, watch-me-do-it record built for Friday nights and loud speakers.

Then the guests do their thing. Medikal has spent years perfecting the art of sounding relaxed and rich at the same time, and his presence instantly turns any record into a flex session. Beatz Vampire, meanwhile, produces like a man who knows that today’s listeners will skip at the first sign of boredom. At just over two minutes, “Ability” gets in, makes its point and leaves before you can reach for your phone. It is the musical version of a Ghanaian uncle’s wedding speech when the MC has warned him to keep it short: straight to the point, no long story, and everybody still claps.

The Cover: Gym Class Heroes, Accra Edition

The artwork is one of the most fun covers of the month. It is a bright, cartoon-style illustration of a busy gym. In the centre, a woman in a lilac sports bra and shorts pedals hard on a blue exercise bike while a dreadlocked man in a white tank top stands beside her, chatting like he owns the place. To the left, a bearded man in a red hoodie strokes his chin next to a woman in a yellow leotard lifting pink dumbbells. On the right, a man in a red cap with a towel around his neck watches another gym-goer work out. Dumbbells and weight plates are scattered across the floor, and above it all, giant red “ABILITY” lettering sits under the names Kojo Blak, Medikal and Beatz Vampire. Everybody is working, nobody is sweating too much, and the vibe is pure stamina. Somebody in that gym is definitely skipping leg day.

Who Is Kojo Blak?

Kojo Blak, born McDonald Addotey Braide on 23 July 2001, grew up in Dansoman in Accra. As a teenager at St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School, he sang under the name Toy Boy in a group called BMT, then went solo and sharpened his voice in the Christ Embassy Church choir before rebranding as Kojo Blak. He draws inspiration from highlife greats like E.T. Mensah, Osibisa, Nana Ampadu and Daddy Lumba, alongside childhood idols Michael Jackson, Bob Marley and the Fugees. That mix of old-school soul and new-school bounce explains a lot about his sound.

In 2023 he signed with Blue Magic and Encore Recordings, dropping his debut EP 757 on 15 May 2024. Then came the song that changed his life: “Excellent” with Kelvyn Boy, released in December 2024 and turned into a nationwide hit in 2025. He followed it with “Next Door” featuring Sarkodie, the 131 EP, a remix of “Excellent” with Joeboy and King Promise, “Rugged 2.0” with Olivetheboy, a guest spot on KiDi’s “Gymnastic” and, in 2026, “Sailor” with Oxlade. At the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards in May 2026, he was named Best New Artiste and “Excellent” won Best Afrobeats Song. Not bad for a former choir boy from Dansoman.

Why “Ability” Matters Now

Last month we caught up with the “Excellent (Remix)”, the record that proved Kojo Blak can stand tall next to Ghana’s and Nigeria’s A-list. “Ability” is his first big move since then, and the choice of partner is clever. Medikal is coming off a huge 2026, picking up Best Hiplife/Hip-hop Artiste at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards while his “Shoulder” took home Most Popular Song and Collaboration of the Year. He has kept the streak going with records like “Sika” with Shatta Wale. Pairing the reigning Best New Artiste with one of the country’s most decorated rappers is the kind of matchmaking that wins December.

And then there is Beatz Vampire, who is having the kind of week producers dream about. Only yesterday he gave Kuami Eugene the party chant “Ajei”, and now he is on the cover of a Kojo Blak single as a featured artist. Two big releases in two days is not luck; it is a man working like he has a gym membership he actually uses. With Detty December around the corner, DJs will be hunting for short, confident, crowd-ready records. “Ability” has the names, the energy and the runtime to be one of them. Ability, plus availability, plus a Medikal verse five years in the making. Ghana, do your thing.
